Lenderman and Williamson, Lions of the Week
Jessica Lenderman, a fifth-year senior on the women’s basketball
team, has recently been named the Lion of the Week, an award given by
the Vanguard University Athletic Department.
Lenderman, who has been asked to step up as point guard of the
Lions, has led Vanguard to a 6-4 start, including a 3-0 record in the
Golden State Athletic Conference. Vanguard, the only team undefeated
in GSAC, currently sits on top of the GSAC standings after being
predicted to finish in the bottom half of the pack in the coaches’
preseason poll.
In the Lions’ last two GSAC games, Lenderman led the team with 26
points and 11 assists while making 6 of 9 three-pointers. She scored
16 points, recorded three steals and dished out six assists in
Vanguard’s win over Concordia, and added 10 points and five assists
in the upset over No. 12 Biola.
Before Lenderman, Vanguard selected Leviticus Williamson, of the
men’s basketball team, as Lion of the Week.
Williamson, who is in his second year after transferring from
Notre Dame, scored a season-high 18 points, including two free throws
with three seconds left that gave Vanguard a 70-69 victory over
Lubbock Christian University in the Point Loma Thanksgiving
Tournament. Williamson also scored 11 points in 13 minutes in the
Lions’ 91-62 win over Hope International. He is currently second on
the team in scoring, averaging 13 points per game.
