In the first-ever all-Corona del Mar championship, the Silver
Bullets defeated the Blue Hydras in an overtime shootout to win the
boys under-12 AYSO Region 57 soccer championship.
Both teams ended regulation tied, 1-1, and were tied, 3-3, in the
shootout, before Camden Nicholson booted in the final attempt for a
4-3 Silver Bullet edge and the eventual win.
Nicholson put the Silver Bullets up, 1-0, with an assist from Ori
Tabak.
The game remained tied until the fourth quarter when the Hydras
tied it on a penalty kick from Wes Baker.
Goalie Connor Benvenuti along with Jamie Heinecke, Alex Mainthow,
Jarrett Logan, Tommy Bangert, Scott Berkhausen and Anthony Francisco,
held the Hydras’ offense in check. John Doering, Aaron Varasteh, Eric
Hansen and Andrew Iverson led the Hydra offense with solid midfield
play from Hunter Alder, Yousseff Farfan, Spencer Morris and Stephen
Sheldon.
The Silver Bullets’ midfield of Koomi Chehabi, Jonathan Jaffee and
Kevin Corrigan helped the defense keep the Hydras at bay.
After the Bullets’ first goal, the Hydra defense of Wes Baker,
Patrick Vorwerck, Lane Wilhelm, Scott Hansen, Jack Murphy and
goalkeeper Brad Jones kept the Bullets’ offense in-check the rest of
the game.
The Silver Bullets advance to sectional play beginning in March.
