Water polo trio named All-CIF

Three members of the Laguna Beach High boys’ water polo team have

earned All-CIF Southern Section status in Division I, the Southern

Section office announced Tuesday.

Nick McConnel was named First Team, Hugh Sandys was named Second

Team, and Christ Stansbury made the division’s Third Team.

All three are seniors.

“It’s really an honor for those three to be selected All-CIF,”

Laguna Beach Coach Rick Scott said. “All three had outstanding years,

and they are very deserving of this award.”

McConnel was the Breakers’ 2-meter man, Sandys played goalie, and

Stansbury was an outside shooter.

The All-CIF Southern Section boys’ Division I water polo team,

consisting of a 14-member First Team, a 13-member Second Team and a

15-member Third Team, is headed by the Player of the Year, senior

Thomas Hale of Long Beach Wilson, and Wilson’s Tony Martinho, named

Coach of the Year.
