School takes fitness to a mental level
The Hebrew Academy in Huntington Beach has established two new
physical education programs, which focus on team building and
establishing fitness incentives.
The first program, “Team Building,” works on developing student’s
skills in cooperation, trust, problem solving, creativity, decision
making, communication, confidence and teamwork. By participating in
challenging activities that provide opportunities for students to
strive together to reach their goals rather than competing against
one another, students will learn the benefit of teamwork.
The second program, “The Mileage Club,” sets up children in the
first through sixth grades with a fitness incentive program based on
walking. After each child sets a personal goal, that child tries to
achieve the goal by walking laps on school grounds to mark their way
toward a personal achievement.
The school hopes to motivate children to become more fit and gain
an appreciation of walking. Student art on display
The PTA’s Huntington Union Council is hosting a 2002-03 National
Reflections program, which began Dec. 1 and will run through Dec. 14.
The program was open to the 24 schools in Huntington Beach’s
school districts.Entries in original literature, music, visual arts
and photography will be on display in the Huntington Beach Central
Library.
Entries were provided by students in kindergarten through high
school. The top 36 entries from the four divisions will then go on to
the State PTA level to be judged a second time before possibly
proceeding to the national level, at which point students who are
selected will receive monetary awards.
