Golden Eagles soar to title

The Golden Eagles out of AYSO Region 117 rolled through the 15th
annual Turkey Shoot tournament, dominating four opponents to earn the
boys’ Under-10 Division tournament title.
The event was hosted by Region 56 at Edison High.
The Golden Eagles outscored their four opponents, 14-2, with three shutouts.
They defeated Fountain Valley (4-0), the Patriots (1-0), the
Strikers (6-0), and the Wet Willies (3-2), the latter three teams all
from Huntington Beach.
Justin Smith led the Golden Eagles in scoring. Tournament goals
were also scored by Michael Tucker, Josh Mischler, Josh Knox, Kyle
Hisa, Michael Debrott, Tyler Clouse and Tuner Clouse.
Pacing the Golden Eagles defense were Jacob Demes, Brett Maus,
Matthew Gasparro, and Adrian Briggs.
In other AYSO playoff action:
Under-12 Division
Eliminators 2, Wet Willies 0
Defense paved the way for the Eliminators, who won the division
postseason championship.
The defense, which surrendered four goals during tournament play,
was led at center by Matt Fetters, wings Brian Hurd and Zoran Cirson,
and Nick Mayer in goal. The mid-field was controlled by Bennett
Allen, Riley Miller, Daniel Storage and brothers Jared and Derek
Mossembekker. Kyle Hubort, Jordan Long and Evan Generoli turned in
solid play at forward.
Jordan led the team in scoring for the season with 28 goals.
The Eliminators, coached by Steve Mossembekker and Kellie Hubort,
advance to compete in the upcoming Area K playoffs.
Region 55
Under-10 Division
Purple Raptors 2, North HB 0
Juan Rodriguez scored both goals, and the Purple Raptors capped a
perfect season by winning the division title.
The other members of the Purple Raptors are Jose Aleman, Andrew
Brine, Kevin Fletcher, Jimmy Flynn, Blake Herzog, Kevin Kustura,
Tyler Pagter, Juan Rodriguez, Ereck Schwartz, Nicholas Soedel, Grant
Van Dyke, head coach John Kustura and assistant coach Steve Pagter.
Region 56
Under-12 Division
Impact 4, Red Dragons 3
Tyler McCarthy took a cross from Nick Stephens and scored the
game-winning goal in overtime to lift Impact.
Impact held a 3-1 lead, but the Red Dragons scored twice in the
final 20 minutes to force overtime.
Impact, coached by Bob Dunn and Bob Tinsley, was led by Jonathon
Ayala, Nathan Birk, Tanner Class, Jeffrey Cole, John Dachroeden, John
Dunn, Anders Hamborg, Casey Hill, Ryan Johnson, Dan Knight, Ben
Tinsley and Josh Villas.
GIRLS’
Region 117 Under-19 Division
Region 117’s girls’ U-19 team won both the Area K and Section 11
tournament championships to finish the season unbeaten.
The team is Ashley Blake, Jennifer Lidman, Theresa Simmons,
Jessica Harris, Alexis Stein, April Pate, Ashley Carr, Amber Rodezno,
Dana Livingston, Dorri Daggett, Ashley Edwards, Jessica Abdou,
Brittany Millar and Jessica Case.
The team is coached by Danny Nielsen and Chris Nielsen.
Under-12 Division
Quick Chicks 2, Criminals 0
Coach Dale Hensley’s Quick Chicks ended the season without a loss
as they clinched the division title by blanking the Criminals.
Alison Hensley scored on a first quarter penalty kick and Haley
Townsend scored later in the half as the Quick Chicks took a 2-0 lead
at the intermission.
Turning in strong performances were forwards Jessica Parker and
Alex Long, mid-fielders Kailey Ivers, Nicole Cannon, Lisa Fleck,
Kimberly Kurdziel and Alexander Lawrence, goalie Karlee Hodgman,
sweeper Kristy Verone and fullbacks Braelyn Snook and Pouneh
Radparvar.
The Quick Chicks have qualified to play in the Area K playoffs,
set for January.
