School board president to be named tonight

The school board’s next president will probably be a slam-dunk
decision tonight, barring another shocker like that seen at the Costa
Mesa City Council meeting last week.
Martha Fluor, currently the board’s vice-president, will probably
ascend to the presidency, trustee Serene Stokes said.
But other trustees who support Fluor are reluctant to guarantee
her election as the new president after Karen Robinson’s upset of
expected mayor Gary Monahan on the Costa Mesa City Council.
“We are kind of spooked, based on what happened in Costa Mesa,”
trustee Dana Black said.
Current President Judy Franco said she wasn’t sure who was
interested since she had not yet seen the forms the trustees fill out
expressing their desire for certain leadership positions and
committees.
The school board president presides over meetings and is the only
trustee who attends all of the agenda meetings.
Fluor, who’s been on the board since 1992 and has been president
twice, was unavailable for comment Monday.
