UC Irvine’s women’s basketball team improved to 4-1 with a 61-58
nonconference overtime victory at San Diego State Wednesday night,
keyed by the scoring of Lauren Yadon (15 points), but numbed by knee
injuries to two starters in the second half, Christina Callaway and
Kristen Thawley.
The Anteaters, who trailed at halftime, 34-27, and wound up 54-54
after regulation, gained the ultimate advantage with 1:09 to go in
the overtime period on a Yadon bucket, and Ashley Biggins sealed it
with a pair of free throws with 10.1 seconds left.
The Anteaters got 13 points from Lisa Faulkner and 12 from
Callaway before the latter exited with a knee injury.
Also lost in the second half to a knee injury was Thawley and both
were of a concerned nature.
