Garey paces OCC victory
Orange Coast College freshman guard Jason Garey sank nine
three-pointers and scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Pirates
to a 96-79 men’s basketball win over Los Angeles Trade Tech in the
consolation championship game of the Citrus Tournament Sunday at
Citrus College.
Brian Williams (18 points), Stephon Seales (16) and Dimitrius
Alexander (15) also chipped in for the Pirates (4-3).

BASKETBALL: OCC women fall
The Orange Coast College women’s basketball team was defeated,
69-63, by Contra Costa College in the championship game of the
Ventura Tournament Sunday at Ventura College.
Lindsey Galasso had a team-high 16 points, including four
three-pointers, but the Pirates (5-3) could not protect a 35-32
halftime lead.
Nancy Hatsushi (three points Sunday) and Liz Mendoza (nine) were
all-tournament picks from OCC, which was hurt when starter Alisa
Carrillo fouled out five minutes into the second half.
VOLLEYBALL: ‘Eaters denied
The UC Irvine women’s volleyball program was denied an at-large
berth into the 64-team NCAA Tournament, it was announced Sunday.
The Anteaters finished 19-11.
