Wolfpack Blue shades Laguna
Laguna Beach’s under-13 Club Soccer team concluded its regular
season with a 3-2 loss to the Wolfpack Blue at Wolfpack Field in
Huntington Beach.
Laguna controlled most of the match and dominated play in the
first half, although they missed several scoring opportunities that
would have opened up the game.
They did manage to take a 1-0 lead with just over 15 minutes left
in the half when Shane Springer scored off Austin Hyden’s corner
kick.
Laguna maintained that lead until just before the half expired.
With time winding down, Laguna was called for an inadvertent handball
in the penalty box and Wolfpack converted a penalty kick to end the
half in a 1-1 tie.
Laguna came out flat at the start of the second half and
surrendered two routine goals to find themselves in a 3-1 hole. Hyden
brought them back to within 3-2 by scoring on a penalty kick but
Laguna could get no closer.
Laguna completed play in the tough Coast Soccer League Silver
South Division with a 2-9-3 record.
Laguna’s offense was led by Hyden at mid-field and forward Keegan
Valaika, with strong support coming from mid-fielders Shane Springer,
Josh Wells, Kevin Buck and Brian Schriver and forwards Trey Whitaker
and Matt Miller.
Defensively, the team was paced by Michael Tachovsky, Marshall
Thomas, Jared Berkson, Charles Moothart and Brett Hardy.
Devin Hands played, stopped at mid-field and shared goaltending
duties with Grant Windes.
