Sour Power wins division championship

Vanessa Calderon burned the net for three goals Saturday to lift

Sour Power past the Burgundy Fire, 3-2, to win the AYSO Region 55

girls’ under-12 Division soccer championship at Glenn View School.

Two of Calderon’s scores were set up by assists from Devon Shinn.

Tori Martinez got the winning goal for Sour Power, with defensive

support coming from Chelsea Rebollar, Maddie McKinley, Hayley Lytle,

Ashley Butcher and Olivia Poss.

Also contributing to the victory were Katie Brunner, Jessica

Hurtado, Jennifer Hu, Saida Mendoza, Amber Soedel and Chanelle Neal.

Kirsten Marony scored both goals for Burgundy Fire.

In five postseason tournament games, Sour Power scored 17 goals.

Shinn led the team with 10 goals and Calderon scored the other seven.

Sour Power Coach Marcos Rebollar won his second consecutive title

at the under-12 Division level.

In AYSO Region 117 playoff action:

Quick Chicks 3, Lightning Bolts 2

The Quick Chicks (12-0-1) advanced to Saturday’s AYSO Region 117

under-12 Division title match by beating the Lightning Bolts, 3-2,

and Extreme, 2-0.

Jessica Parker scored in the final minutes to lift her team past

the Lightning Bolts. Alison Hensley scored the other two Quick Chicks

goals.

Stephanie Schroeder and Erika Longoria scored for the Lightning

Bolts.

The play of Karlee Hodgman in goal, sweeper Kristy Verone and

fullbacks Pouneh Radparvar, Hayley Townsend and Braelyn Snook helped

the Quick Chicks to shut out the Extreme in a semifinal match.

Parker scored off a Hensley assist and Snook scored the final

goal.

Under-10 Division

Purple Piranhas 4, HB Slimers 3

Overtime goals by Emily Bush, Katie Philipson and Jillian Torrance

lifted the Purple Piranhas. Bush finished with two goals.

Region 117 Under-10 Division

Ice Breakers 3, Fire Falcons 0

The Ice Breakers picked up their fourth postseason victory at

Wardlow Field in Huntington Beach.

Gavin Perdomo, Mitchell Phillipy and Trevor Verone rotated in goal

to combine on the shutout. Verone scored off a double-assist from

defender Matthew Bordas and forward Matthew Steinhaus, and Steinhaus

later scored off a Perdomo assist.

Before his stint in goal, Phillipy keyed the play at midfield.

Garrett Hickman, Kane Ordonez and Cole Souza also led the defensive

charge.

Region 56

Under-9 Division

Bombers 1, Blast 0

Kevin Coskey’s goal lifted the undefeated Bombers to the

championship at Peterson School. Caskey scored 10 of his team’s 13

goals during postseason play. Sloan Varing also paced the Bombers’

offensive attack. Michael Chislock, Luke Backes and Connor Geck keyed

the defense. Sam Barrera, Tommy Nelson, Kevin Cook, Mason George,

Cody Morden, and Trevor Long also keyed the Bombers’ title run.

Region 143

Boys’ Under-16 Division

Region 143 3, Tustin 2

Yuto Someya, Nick Lopez and Andrew Long, off a corner kick by

Franco Macchia, all scored first half goals as Region 143 completed a

perfect, 20-win season in the finals of the AYSO Area 11 playoffs.
