Holidays a busy time for traffic patrols
The Newport Beach Police Department is gearing up for the holiday
season, which brings with it more traffic, periodically rough weather
and traffic collisions, officials said.
While they will tighten enforcement, police officers will also
keep an eye out for those not wearing seat belts next week, which is
National Buckle Up America Week. They will also issue more citations
during this time. The increased vigilance and enforcement is funded
by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
Studies show 2,764 people were killed on California roadways and
1,268 did not wear seat belts last year.
Animal Control will offer rabies clinic
The Newport Beach Animal Control Department will conduct its
annual rabies clinic on Dec. 2 at the Newport Beach Animal Shelter in
the Dover Shores Pet Care Center at 2075 Newport Blvd., Costa Mesa.
Rabies shots will be available at a discount price for dogs and
cats -- $3.50 per pet. Other types of vaccinations will also be
available. All dogs attending the clinic must be held on a leash, and
all cats must be in carriers.
Animal owners are asked to tell shelter staff that they are there
for the rabies clinic to receive the discounted prices. For more
information, call the Newport Beach Animal Shelter at (949) 722-7387.
