William Joseph Rousseau IV and Gerry Artman, representing the
Laguna Beach-sponsored fall youth cross-country program, turned in
outstanding performances at last weekend’s Southern California
Athletic Federation Orange County Cross-Country Championships.
Rousseau finished second in the boys’ division 1994, finishing the
1.5-kilometer race in 6:51.
He was just .5 seconds behind the first-place finisher.
Artman also earned a second place, running a 9.57 in the girls’
division 1991 2-kilometer event.
Her time was two seconds behind the race winner.
The divisions represent the year in which each runner was born.
The Orange County Championships were held last Sunday in Santa
Ana.
The finishes posted by Rousseau and Artman, who were coached by
Fred Pichay, earned the two local runners a spot in the Southern
California Championships, to be held Dec. 7 at Kern River Park in
Bakersfield.
