NEWPORT BEACH -- Newport Harbor High’s unbeaten club surfing team
rolled to its 10th straight straight victory Tuesday morning,
sweeping Santa Margarita away, 86-38, at the 56th Street surfing
site. A complete sweep equates to 90 points.
Newport Harbor went 1-2 in every event but the body board, which
was won by freshman Dan Matthews of Newport in summer-like conditions
with 3- 4-foot swells.
Geoff Rill, Brighton Brandenburger, Brian Pearson and Tom Holbrook
won the short board heats, with teammates Joey Head, Tom Bissell,
Tyler Hosseini and Bronson Hovnanian runners-up.
It was Rill’s eighth win of the season.
Alex Knost and Brett Catron went 1-2 in the long board. Knost has
won all six events in which he has entered this season.
In the nonscoring girls short/long board, Newport’s Erica Hosseini
and Amy Lowry went 1-2.
The Sea View League Finals are scheduled for the same site Dec. 3.
