Corona del Mar High’s Sea Kings, Estancia’s Eagles and the Newport

Harbor Sailors compete today at the CIF Southern Section Cross

Country Preliminaries at Mt. San Antonio College.

Estancia and Corona del Mar will compete in the Division III races

while Newport Harbor races in Division II, with berths in the CIF

Finals on the line.

Corona’s girls and boys teams come off wins at the Pacific Coast

League finals last week and race today at 1:53 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.,

respectively.

Blake Dillion, Bo Weidner, Kevin Artz, Danny Quinlan, Brandon

Borcorman, J.C. and Jack Turner, with alternates Chris Ringstrom,

Mike Rudinica and Julian Salinas, will lead the Sea King boys while

Becky Cummins, Keelan Cuyler, Taryn Kawata, Melissa Swigert, Ahlia

Kattan, Anne St. Geme, Sarah Claster and alternates Jenny Long and

Devin Ahearn anchor CdM’s girls team.

Estancia’s girls race today at 1:53 p.m. while the boys race at

3:30 p.m. in Division III.

The boys ran to a second-place finish while the Eagle girls took

third place at last week’s Golden West League finals, where Humberto

Rojas and Diana Rosete each won individual league titles.

Coach Charlie Appell will take Rojas, Alex Cahuantzi, Aaron Van

Geem, Ponfilo Elias, Abel Flores, Francisco Morales and Sean Zich on

the boys side while Rosete, Crystal Rincon, Fatima Carrasco, Lucy

Leon, Brittanie Starn, Diana Castro and Marina Abdul anchor the girls

side.

The top six teams from the two girls heats and the three boys

races in Division III advance to the CIF Finals, while the top four

boys and the top six girls from each run move on to the CIF Finals

Nov. 23.

Newport Harbor’s girls team runs at 2:20 p.m. today with Courtney

Marshall, Lauren Paul, Amy Klippert, Andy Sarris, Caitlin Mai,

Courtney Hanson, Krystal Wright and Irma Cruz as an alternate leading

the charge while the boys race at 2:36 p.m.

The Sailors come off a third-place showing at last week’s Sea View

League finals, where each runner ran personal bests, according to

Coach Eric Tweit.

“We definitely have a chance to get that third slot,” said Tweit,

referring to the three teams from each of the heats to advance to the

CIF Finals.

Alec Urtusuastegui, Nick Miller, Nick St. Andre, Juan Rios, Kenny

Rakestraw, Wes Pohlmann and Wesley Urtusuastegui make up Newport’s

boys lineup for Coach Nowell Kay.

Kay’s squad will compete against the strength of Rubidoux, Orange,

Katella, St. John Bosco, West Torrance, Villa Park and Laguna Hills.

Alec Urtusuastegui finished second with a standout effort behind

Woodbridge’s Michael Haddon at the league finals as the Sailors took

second to Foothill in the team competition.
