Reception clear for Chargers

In what was a must-win situation for the Edison High School
football team, Matt White posted his top numbers for the season.
The junior hauled in just five passes from quarterback Jeff Grady
but made each reception count, in all totaling 129 yards and scoring
a pair of touchdowns in the Chargers’ 32-7 Sunset League victory over
Huntington Beach.
White’s performance on a rainy night helped Edison stay in the
hunt for a CIF playoff berth.
“It was a big game for our team against our city rival. We knew
that we had to win to keep our hopes alive for a possible playoff
berth. It was a great team effort,” said White, the Independent’s
Player of the Week.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound White was quick to credit the outstanding
play of the Edison offensive line and another outstanding rushing
game by running back Andy Avila.
White scored on a 31-yard pass from Grady in the opening period
for a 6-0 Edison lead and closed out the game’s scoring when the two
hooked up on a 21-yard scoring play in the third quarter.
The two touchdowns give White, a two-year varsity performer, five
on the season.
He is Edison’s top receiver, with nearly 750 yards in nine games.
