Nationals await Lions’ Hall, Magana

FRESNO -- Vanguard University’s Tony Magana led the Lions to a
fifth-place finish at the NAIA Region 2 Championships Saturday at
Woodward Park.
Magana went 25:43 over the 8K course, finishing fifth. Also from
Vanguard: Matt Meyer (19th at 26:30, Mikael Larsson (20th at 26:31),
Steve Lalia (30th at 27:20) and John Nelson (36th at 27:36).
Vanguard’s women’s entry was seventh with Sarah Hall pacing the
effort with a fourth-place finish in 18:46 for the 5K distance.
Jennie Thune was 21st in 19:20 and Elizabeth Huipe was 23rd in
19:30, followed by Bridget Lonsdale (21:66) and Carrie McIntyre
(23:45).
With their high finishes, Magana and Hall, both products of
Estancia High, qualified for the NAIA National Championships at
Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisc., Nov. 23.
