Parcel of Laguna Laurel land to be restored
The Nature Conservancy, Laguna Canyon Foundation and The Irvine
Company will restore between three and five acres of land in the
Laguna Laurel area of Laguna Canyon.
The habitat supports numerous plant and animal communities,
including two threatened bird species.
The restoration work is scheduled to begin early this month.
Beginning next spring, nonnative invasive plants and weeds will be
removed throughout the entire 173-acre Laguna Laurel parcel.
Native coastal sage scrub topsoil will be taken from the nearby
Irvine Ranch and relocated to the Laguna Laurel site.
Staff from the Nature Conservancy will be on site throughout the
restoration activities, said Trish Smith, senior project ecologist
for The Nature Conservancy.
