Bruins chew ‘em up

The Bruins received a total team effort to beat the Panthers, 5-2,
in its final regular season game in Boys under-12 AYSO Region 97
soccer.
Taylor Allee scored three goals off crossing passes from Bryan
Rhodes, Blake Kelly and Trevor Noon and the defense was anchored by
Brian Kekemeyer, Daniel Netzer, Max Van Berg, Christian Taggert and
Andy Brown.
Bruin midfielders Luc Heasley, Sean Mueller, Jake Caughill and
Ricky Sullivan provided defensive support and started Bruins’
attacks.
* Hurricanes 4, Panthers 1
The Hurricanes ended the regular season on a strong note with a
win over the Panthers keyed by two goals from Simon Hedrick and
single goals from Grady Kough and Easton Giedt.
Midfielders Derek Boler and Jordan and Justin McLaren ignited a
second-quarter attack and Giedt, Kough and Robbie Hampton all added
assists for the Hurricanes, who received strong defensive support
from J. P. Muller, Harrison Faigen, Mick Sheehan, Max Collins and
Christian Scott helped to stop Panther offensive attacks.
The Panthers got on the board in the final minutes when Spencer
Joyce scored. Panther goalkeeper Gavin Arblaster held steady.
* Rebels 2, Blue Men 2
The Blue Men scored a last-second goal to secure the tie.
A header by Evan Call off a corner kick and a centering pass by
William Munoz to Eric Holland set up the Rebels’ two scores and Munoz
and Corey Bell-Whelans had several shots denied by Blue Men
goalkeepers.
Rebel goalkeepers John Ryder and Tim Barela held strong.
* Patriots 2, Rebels 0
The Patriots beat the first-place Rebels behind goals from Wil
Curiel and Jackson Carmack. Jay Ordaz assisted on both goals.
Chris O’Campo, Peter Nguyen and Preston Wheeler ignited Patriots’
scoring drives and midfielders Randall Hause, Jay Wilson, Daron
Arnold, Tommy Freeman and Joshua Bowman added strong play along with
defenders Spencer Baratto, Irving Torres and Curiel. Hause and
Wheeler tended the net.
In Boys under-14 play:
* The Who 6, Strikers 1
Two goals from Will Atwood off assists from Travis Kuhns and Jon
Gordon and single goals from Jacob Silverman, Gordon, Jamie Gayley
and Nick Normandin keyed the win.
Vinnie Finn and Michael Perkins played strong at midfield and the
defense was led by sweeper Brandon Parole with help from Christian
Harrison and Tobin Olson.
Goalkeeper Timothy Regan made four saves.
* Slammin’ Smurfs 2, Saints 2
A late goal from Smurf Ben Swift allowed the third-place Smurfs to
tie the second-place Saints.
The Smurfs played with nine players for most of the game against
the Saints, who had 11 players.
The first Smurf goal came when Will Reichenstein booted a rebound
into the upper-right corner of the net off a shot originally taken by
Rex Nelson.
Chris Gutierrez made accurate passes and took a shot on goal
before leaving the game in the third quarter with an injury and Sean
Marshall stopped many balls in the air.
The Saints scored twice before Swift scored his goal, but the
Smurf defense tightened with Andrew Kaban, Kyle Caldwell, Robert
DiFrancesco and Branden Rowley playing aggressive soccer, tackling
the ball and passing forward.
Smurf goalkeeper Tommy Olson made nine saves, including one shot
blocked up and over the goal.
Jordan Harris and Phil Garrett are both out of the Smurf lineup
with broken arms, but hope to return soon.
In Boys under-10 action:
* Blue Blasters 5, Galaxy 3
The Blue Blasters responded from a 3-2 deficit in the third
quarter to end the regular season with a victory.
Two players scored two goals apiece for the victors including
Craig McKennon and Misha Pakvasa, who scored on two breakaway shots.
Caleb Candelaria added a goal and tallied an assist while helping an
offense also made up of Trey Franklin and Paul Weisinger.
Franklin, Weisinger, Candelaria, Jake Likich, Ryan Shannon and
C.J. Tona shared midfield duties and Brecht Van’t Hof held back the
Galaxy while playing sweeper.
Tona, Shannon, McKennon, Likich and Franklin played strong on
defense and Likich, Candelaria and Shannon shared goaltending duties
and made some key saves.
* Surf Monkeys 2, Volcano 0
Forwards Sean Regan and Scott Mack each scored goals and Wyeth
Rietveld provided assists.
The Monkey attack also included Casey Bushong, Willie Pyle and
Michael Shaw and goalkeeper Garrett Kerr maintained a shutout with
strong play and key saves outside the goalie box.
Strong defensive play for the Monkeys was provided by Dylan
Goodman, Trevor Magana, and Tyler Smyth and Patrick Conway at
midfield.
* Soccer Freaks 4, Blue Bombers 2
The Blue Bombers received goals from Nolan Mena and Marco Urquiza
and displayed strong offense from David Vorona, Brodi Beal and Ethan
Murray.
The defense was helped by Slater Stanley, Kyle Regan, Ryan
Davidson and Jack Murrel and midfield play was controlled by Gus
Moore and Nicholas Jaber. Marco Piazza played strong in goal.
* Cheetahs 4, Team #6 0
Austin Mchaffey scored two goals and Cheetah forwards Matt Mello
and Troy Arnold each scored one goal to lead the Cheetahs in the
shutout.
Luke Dawson had assists and Charlie Massingill and Taylor Sims
controlled the midfield with help from Stephen Pratty.
Center defender Matt DiFrancesco made some solid kicks to stave
off Team #6 shots and defensive backup came from Wade Kubat, Ross
Schwartz and Zack Tofoya.
Goalkeeper Jacob Hirsch made to crucial saves in the fourth
quarter to secure the game.
In Boys under-8 action:
* Heavy Metal vs. Golden Snitches
Two goals each from Joshua Munoz and Robert Wilson and one goal
from Alon Anish led the Heavy Metal.
Robert Boullon, Ryan Murphy and Ryan Fowler provided midfield
strength, and defenders Max Meisenheimer, Blake Pender, Bayley
Pierson and Spencer Keith contained the counterattacks from the
Snitches, who played a strong game with solid defense from all
players.
* Panthers vs. Devil Rays
Clay Smythe scored the Panthers’ goal after passes from Riley
Peterson and Tyler Schwartz and Scott Sexton kept the game tied with
several stops in goal on point-blank shots in the final minutes.
Michael Reo, Kyle Benter and Tyler Farrell played solid against
the Devil Ray forwards and Carter Yonkers, Braden Delannoy and R.J.
Roberts kept the midfield under control.
In Boys under-7 action:
* The Lasers vs. Blue Dragons
The Lasers and Blue Dragons battled with the Lasers receiving
tough defense from Rian Atherton, Jack Williamson and Joey Gregory.
Forwards Ian MacInnis, J.J. Von Ahlefeld and Grant Moore attacked
for most of the game and strong goaltending was provided by Garrett
Byers, Brandon Beck, Cole Chapin and Shaun Vetrovec.
The Blue Dragons received a strong effort from Zachary Buggelin,
Samuel Jones and Bryan Shollin. Timothy Rojas, Marco Bruscia and
Christian Sandoval made some key passes and Ivan Dhuy, Jacob Farwell,
Jackson Sanders and Derek Sweet all played strong.
* Fireballs vs. Black Hawks
Mario Nark scored twice on assists from Cameron Hall and Nick
Roman and attackers Daniel O’Toole, Mitch Mendoza and Brooks O’Hea
joined forces with midfielders Nick Huntley and Marcell DeBarros to
keep the pressure on.
Goalies Kody Wensley and Brandt Bucher stopped many goal attempts
by the Hawks and Marc Gehlke stopped many shots in the fourth
quarter.
In Boys under-6 play:
* Green Hornets vs. Dragons
Ben Bockrath scored three goals and Blake Jessen and Luke Shea
added single goals for the Green Hornets.
The goalkeeping tandem of Duke Danell-Walker and Brian Shaw kept
the Dragons out of the goal and Sean Wilson, Bryant Putnam, Wyatt
Devine and Carter Scott played solid defense.
The Dragons evened the match with a strong finish.
