The Huntington Beach Independent went to Circle View School for
Immigration Day, a celebration about studying the students’ heritage,
and asked some of the fifth-graders in Alice French’s class, ‘What
have you learned about your heritage while researching your
background?’
“The Irish had a lot of festivities in the old days -- they are
mostly farmers with livestock and eat meat and potatoes.”
ISAIAH RAY, 11
“I learned about Vikings and their history and learned how to make
delicious Norwegian waffles. Norwegians are some of the most fit --
one guy lived to be 146 years old.”
VANYA KEYES, 10
“I learned a lot about the Samurai -- all about their food, what
they eat, how fish is cooked. I learned how to cook sushi and also
learned about their religion and sports.”
KELLY MITSUMORI, 10
“I learned about China and about festivals after talking to my
grandparents. They told me about all these different customs they
celebrate and all the different traditions.”
ALLISON WALLINGFORD, 10
