Lions win, 2-1
An overtime goal by Vanguard’s Matt Hess led the Lions to a 2-1
Golden State Athletic Conference win in men’s soccer over host Point
Loma Nazarene Wednesday.
Hess scored the unassisted game-winner 3:56 into overtime after
the teams ended regulation at 1-1.
Hess scored his first goal off a penalty kick in the first half to
equalize Pt. Loma’s Luke Lineman’s goal.
Pt. Loma, 7-12, 3-7 in the GSAC, outshot Vanguard, 24-10, and Lion
goalkeeper Christopher Swift made seven saves, four in the second
half, for the Lions, 7-6-5, 2-3-4 in the GSAC.
Ricky Wade and Armando Ortiz also had shots on goal for the Lions.
