Costa Mesa garage fire claims life of canine
A garage fire was responsible for the death of a dog in Costa Mesa
early Saturday morning, though no people were injured. About 20
firefighters responded to the call at about 4:37 a.m. in the 2400
block of Orange Avenue and managed to extinguish the blaze in the
semi-attached garage before it spread to the house. The garage was
destroyed.
A fire department spokesman said that the cause of the fire is
under investigation. Property damage estimates were not available on
Saturday.
Police help hoist pregnant potbellied pig
A potbellied pig was reported rooting around the front yards of
some homes in the 3000 block of Coolidge early Saturday afternoon.
Residents had herded the pig and had her cornered until an animal
control officer arrived on the scene and discovered the pig was
pregnant, a police spokesman said.
Two Costa Mesa Police offers were called to help the
animal-control officer hoist the pig into a vehicle to transport her
to a local shelter.
