Corona del Mar Home Tour brings in $92,500
The 29th annual Corona del Mar Home Tour raked in about $92,500,
which will go toward programs and equipment for students at Corona
del Mar High School.
The tour, which took place Tuesday, was sponsored by the school’s
PTA. The owners of six Corona del Mar homes opened their doors to
about 1,800 guests throughout the day.
“I think it went great,” co-chair Janice Newfield said. “I think
it was a nice variety of homes and there was something for
everybody.”
The PTA does not earmark how the funds raised should be used.
Instead the funds are dispersed to teachers as they make requests and
are usually spent on new technology, classroom posters and additional
textbooks, Newfield said.
The amount raised this year is lower than the amount raised in
2001, which was about $106,000, Newfield said.
Car dealers present checks to schools
During halftime of the Friday night football game between Costa
Mesa and Estancia High Schools Friday night, both teams became
winners.
Representatives of the Harbor Boulevard of Cars, an auto dealer
association in Costa Mesa, presented the principals of each school
with checks for $25,000.
The gift brings the association’s total contributions to
Newport-Mesa Unified School District projects to $250,000 since its
“Dollars for Schools” program was launched two years ago.
The gift to Estancia High School is for its stadium construction
project. Costa Mesa High School’s gift is designated to its proposed
50-meter aquatic facility. The two athletic facilities will be used
by both high schools. A $7-million fund-raising project -- Costa Mesa
United -- is being conducted by the Costa Mesa Community Athletic
Foundation to benefit both high schools.
