Pac Soccer Club gets by San Juan, 1-0

Brian Siemonsma scored the only goal 15 minutes into the second
half and the Boys under-13 AYSO Pacific Soccer Club Newport bronze
team narrowly defeated the San Juan Capistrano Titans, 1-0, in Region
97 action.
The win improves the Pacific Soccer club to 5-1-1 on the season.
Garrett Heiser, Denny Perdomo and Adrian Buonanoce kept the attack
going and Josh Jacobs, Julian Hernandez, Calvin Jhunjhuwala, Andrew
Wilson, Nick Sheffield and Jeremy Anish were steady at midfield.
Matt Joslin played solid in goal and was supported by defenders
Robbie Gordon, Robbie Joslyn, O’Toniel Garcia, Corey Hanley, Andrew
Dinh and Taylor Friend.
In Girls under-14 Plus APP action:
* Goldfishies 2, Costa Mesa 0
Samantha Kuhns scored her first goal and Teyana Moyer added
another score to pace the Goldfishies.
Natalie Mitchell, Kara Foster and Kelly Morisson played solid at
midfield.
In Boys under-14 play:
* The Who 2, Beach Bums 2
Down 2-1 to the Beach Bums, Nick Normandin kicked a shot from 25
yards out to tie the score and game ended that way.
Tobin Olson scored The Who’s first goal on a cross from Travis
Kuhns in the first half.
Juan Trujillo stopped five shots including a penalty kick and
Timothy Regan had three saves for The Who.
Christian Harrison, Michael Perkins and sweeper Brandon Parole
provided strong defense and Vinnie Finn, Will Atwood, Jon Gordon and
Jamie Gayley contributed on offense.
* Slammin’ Smurfs 2, Honey Nut Cheerios 2
The Honey Nut Cheerios scored two second-half goals to tie the
Slammin’ Smurfs.
Will Reichenstein had an assist and scored a goal for the Smurfs,
passing to Rex Nelson for the Smurfs’ first goal.
Andrew Kaban, Robert DiFrancesco, Kyle Caldwell and Chris
Gutierrez moved the ball for the Smurfs and Smurfs’ goalkeeper Tommy
Olson rushed a Cheerios’ offender to stop a scoring opportunity.
Smurfs’ defenders Phil Garrett, Edgar Torres, David Garrett and
Ben Swift all played well stopping Cheerios’ attacks.
In Girls under-13 APP Plus action:
* Newport 9, Yorba Linda 0
Lyndsi Lewan, Lily Dierkes and Kelly DeYoung all scored their
first goals of the season, and Stephanie Nealey added two goals to
lead Newport in the shutout.
Newport scored early and often with Cassidy Gayner, Brittany
Sowers and Monique Gallardo all scoring goals in a five-minute
stretch of the first quarter on three assists by Alice Cope.
Andrea Aqueveque contined the scoring for Newport, who had nine
players on the field for the last 10 minutes.
Assists were provided by Tia Sheffelette (on a corner kick),
Maddie McMains and team captains Kristina Heimstaedt and Claire
Josephson. Sarah Cope provided speed and showed defensive skills.
In Girls under-12 APP Plus action:
* Newport 1, Corona del Mar 0
Newport received strong offensive support on its lone goal scored
by Lauren de Voy to blank Corona del Mar.
Carly Cotton, Adrienne Taylor, Shannon Rohan, Christina Cooley,
Stephanie Castor, Parisa Crane and Shelby King helped on de Voy’s
goal and the defense provided by Katy Storch, Shelby Porter, Cayla
Porter, Malia Hohl and Katie Lawler played solid.
In Girls under-12 action:
* Red Crush 3, Bruisers 0
Valentina Buonanoce scored two goals and Kayla Henrie added one
goal for the Red Crush in the shutout.
Hailey Willard, Devyn Hartnett and Delanie Linden played tough
defense and Claire Layton, Charlotte Farrell, Kaitlin Kehoe and Carla
Navarette hustled throughout the game.
Goalie duties were shared by Buonanoce, Farrell, Layton and
Hartnett, keeping the Bruisers from scoring.
* Patriots 3, Blue Crush 0
Kate Klippert scored two goals, one on an assist from Mia Buttera,
and Paige Purmort added another goal to lead the Patriots.
The Patriots also received stellar defensive play from Katherine
Sanders, Amber Milan and Morgan Moody in the win.
In Boys under-12 play:
* Rebels 3, Panthers 2
The Rebels fought back from two one-goal deficits to beat the
Panthers by one goal.
Down 2-1 to the Panthers, the Rebels’ Corey Bell-Wheelans scored
the final two goals to lead the Rebels to the win.
Rebel midfielder Cameron Conway tied the score with a header
following a corner kick after Panther goalkeeper John Ryder scored a
goal to give the Panthers the lead going into halftime.
The Rebel defense stepped up, with Jeff Fichtner, Nathan Dickey
and Nick Vlahakis keeping the Panthers from further scoring.
Midfielders Levi Rowe, Joshua Duerhing and Evan Call kept possession
late in the game.
The Rebels had several scoring chances in the first half with
forwards Eric Holland, Tim Barela, Bell-Wheelans and Cort Adler and
sweeper Will Munoz all taking shots.
* Hurricanes 3, Blue Man Group 2
The Hurricanes held on to a 3-0 lead to defeat the Blue Man Group.
Hurricane defenders Mick Sheehan, Jordan McLaren and J.P. Muller
helped hold the Blue Man Group scoreless in the first half and the
Hurricane offense went to work in the first half.
Simon Hedrick scored the first Hurricane goal off an assist from
Justin McLaren and Hedrick then followed with a pass to Easton Giedt
to score the Hurricanes’ second goal.
Morgan Lintz and Derek Boler advanced the ball for Hedrick’s and
Giedt’s goals.
The Hurricanes scored their third goal after forward Robby Hampton
was fouled, allowing Christian Scott to take a free kick which he
scored.
Max Collins and Harrison Faigen helped keep the Blue Man Group
from tying the game in the waning minutes.
* Rebels 3, Hurricanes 1
Morgan Lintz tied the game, 1-1, but the Rebels proved too strong,
scoring the final two goals for the win despite the block attempt by
Hurricane goalkeeper Simon Hedrick.
Each side penetrated the other’s defense before the Rebels scored
late in the second quarter with a kick over the head of goalie Robby
Hampton.
Christian Scott, Max Collins, Justin McLaren and Derek Boler
played strong both offensively and defensively.
J.P. Muller, Jordan McLaren and Harrison Faigen battled to keep
the game within reach for the Hurricanes.
* Bruins 1, Patriots 1
Taylor Allee scored the Bruins’ goal off a pass from Bryan Rhodes
to tie the Patriots.
The Bruin defense was led by Daniel Netzer, Luc Heasley, Christian
Taggert and Brian Krekmeyer and Andy Brown played solid in goal.
Jake Caughill, Max VanBergh, Ricky Sullivan and Sean Mueller
ignited the Bruins’ attack and slowed the Patriots.
Forwards Trevor Noon and Blake Kelly kept the pressure on the
Patriots and made several key passes that were not converted.
* Patriots 1, Bruins 1
The Patriots rallied to tie the score in the third quarter on a
Jackson Carmack goal with strong offensive support by Jay Ordaz,
Chris O’Campo, Christopher Cowie and Tommy Freeman.
Solid passing came from midfielders Peter Nguyen, Randall Hause
and Spencer Barato and the defense of Wil Curiel, Irving Torres and
Daron Arnold kept the Bruins at-bay.
Josh Bowman, Jay Wilson and Preston Wheeler shared duties in goal.
In Girls under-11 APP Plus action:
* Newport 2, Corona del Mar 0
Newport got its first win of the season with the shutout.
Keeper Veronica McLean made seven saves while Kimmy Ramser,
Marianne Jones and Kristi Jacobs played tough defense.
Kelly Heenan sored the first goal and Claire Ramser scored
Newport’s second goal with an assist from Terra Friedman with McKenna
Cottam, Kasey DeYoung and Caroline Hardenbergh keeping the pressure
on.
Christina Sandoval and Paige More supported at midfield. Natalie
Argueta, Bianca Posey and Elizabeth Eddy missed the match.
In Boys under-11 APP Plus action:
* Newport 3, Corona del Mar 3
Newport came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the sixth-rated CdM
team.
Spencer Rautus scored in the second period and Jonathan Figueroa
scored in both the third and fourth periods for Newport. Shawn
Shahidi had two assists and Jake Manning had one assist.
The Newport offense kept the ball on the CdM side for most of the
game led by captain Jake Manning, Brian Baca, Whitney Regan and Cade
Feitler and the defense was led by captain Blake Davey, Zac Chocek,
Malcolm Faigen and Spencer Martinez and goalkeeper Jesse Hickey.
In Girls under-10 action:
* Blue Angels 3, Blasters 0
The Blue Angels remain undefeated (7-0) with the shutout win.
Defense shined with Blakeley Ficenec, Beth Barnard and Josie Jogwe
all scoring goals and Sarah Tegel, Alex Murphy and Biz Buckingham
played tough defense.
Allison Schellin and Kathryn Zimmermann also took shots on goal
for the Blue Angels against a powerful Blaster defense that included
Charlotte Skjonsby, Natalie Swift and Amanda Peterson.
The Blasters played with only eight people and Jamie Fredrickson
held the score down as goalkeeper. Veronica Seidner and Holly Kelly
pushed the entire game and Cindy Mejia took several shots on goal.
* Bratz 4, Breakers 0
Defenders Zoe Sanglerat and Katie Escher helped limit the Breakers
to one shot on goal and the offense provided the rest.
Courtney McIntosh scored two goals and Milena Buonanoce and
Madelaine Gallardo each scored one goal to lead the Bratz to their
fourth straight victory.
Claire Castillo controlled the midfield and Sophia Leveque,
Alexandra Kehoe and Kelly Kindgren played strong in goal for the
Bratz.
Robin Young saved many shots in goal for the Breakers.
* Parrot Heads 3, Tidal Waves 0
Two goals by Jackie Graham and one goal from Cody Darling notched
the first win for the Parrot Heads.
Strong goalkeeping and defense was provided by Rochelle Bowlin,
Karli Leal and Kristina Agopian.
Lauren Conway set up Graham’s first goal and Wendy Garcia and
Melis Kocyigit provided team support along with Madison Ridgeway, who
stayed in the game despite a finger injury.
* Blue Crush 1, Tigers 1
Goalkeepers Annie Bissell and Christy Ohlhaver made some key saves
for the Blue Crush and Kitty Johnson scored the Blue Crush’s lone
goal as they tied the Tigers.
In Boys under-10 action:
* The Green Bombers extended their win streak to seven games with
a 1-0 win Saturday after captain Dash Johnson called a team huddle in
the final quarter with the score, 0-0.
Eric Zamucen provided inspiration and Brandon Zelner scored the
winning goal.
Solid defense was played by Michael Doering, Dementri Ingram,
Collin McNervey and Alex Matar with Bryce Ashton, Matt Bergendahl and
Brandon Pick stopping offensive threats.
* Blue Blasters 2, Surf Monkeys 1
The Blue Blasters defeated the Surf Monkeys in a defensive battle
with Jake Likich and Caleb Candelaria alternating at midfield and
goalkeeper to combine for multiple saves and keep the Surf Monkeys
scoreless for three quarters.
Brecht Van’t Hof, C.J. Tona and Cory Fults keyed the Blue Blasters
defense and the offense got several shots on goal.
Trey Franklin and Craig McKennon each scored one goal for the Blue
Blasters. The midfield and offense were controlled by Trey Franklin,
Craig McKennon, Misha Pakvasa, Paul Tadross and Paul Weisinger.
* Blue Bombers 5, Killer Bees 1
The Bombers were paced by two goals from Nolan Mena and solo goals
by David Vorona, Jack Murrell and Marco Urquiza to beat the Killer
Bees.
Marco Piazza played strong in goal and the defense was led by Ryan
Davidson, Nicolas Jaber and Ethan Murray.
Kyle Regan, Gus Moore and Slayter Stanley handled duties at
midfield.
* Quicksilver 7, Tsunami 0
Quicksilver picked up its eighth win of the season with help from
Lauren Grupe, who scored three goals, and two goals scored by both
Chelsie Delameter and Claire Silva.
Solid defense of Leah Harper, Ruby Robles, Alex Whiting and
Jessica Hensley contributed to the victory. Devon Brannick ran back
on defense and Gwen Gaylord and Laxi McCardle moved the ball on
offense.
In Girls under-8 play:
* The Wild Tigers battled the Surfer Girls Saturday.
Solid Tiger defense was provided by Lexi DeSantis, Samantha
Sanchez, Jenna Castillo and Annie Bates to stop the Surfer Girls
offense.
Greer Wattson assisted on Ricki Archie’s goal.
* The Blue Water Dolphins dueled the Red Hot Chili Peppers
Saturday.
Page Keys, Nicollette Powell, Samantha Small and Maddie Collins
keyed the Dolphins’ offense with Carly Christian and Ingrid Peralta
assisting on defense.
* The Zooming Zebras played the Geckos and Sara Hamilton had a
goal on an assist from Cinnamon Sary.
Nicole Fitzsimmons took three shots on goal with an assist from
Kiani Crivello and Catherine Connelly.
Solid defense was provided by Catherine Boettner and Taylor Powers
and Hana Mumm took a shot on goal and played well as goalkeeper.
In Boys under-8 action:
* The Heavy Metal came out strong against the Orange Crush with
Joshua Munoz, Ryan Fowler, Robert Wilson and Robert Boullon all
scoring goals for Heavy Metal.
Ryan Murphy and Alon Anish made accurate passes from the midfield
and the defense was dominated by Max Meisenheimer, Blake Pender,
Bayley Pierson and Spencer Keith.
* The Golden Snitches faced the Fireballs with Steve Keenan
playing strong in goal and Kyle Flagg and Pierce Ward moved the ball
up the field effectively. Izaak Lofgren had powerful kicks on defense
and Nicholas Justice attacked the goal.
Peter Tadross displayed steady footwork and Craig Borth and Chase
Keenan led the offense.
* Both the Spitfire and the Devil Rays played a tight defensive
game with Spitfire goalie Theo Boistel shutting out the Devil Rays in
the first half with help from Parker Martinez and Ellery Sever in the
back field.
In the second half, goalie James Newman passed to midfield to set
up Kurt Walde, Ishmael Alkayali and Landon Gyulay, who all assisted
on Nick Vieira’s goal.
Eric Mejia displayed strong midfield tackling footwork.
In Girls under-7 action:
* The Firecrackers dueled the Pink Flamingos Saturday with
Firecracker goals coming from Savannah Gardner, Analysa Vivanco,
Andie Strode and Alana Courier on assists from Rosalie Deliz,
Cortlynn Clement and Katie Donald.
Tough defense was played by Diana Fujii and Hailey Oberst. Emily
Conant was not in action for the Firebirds.
In Boys under-7 action:
* Sharp passes were made between attackers Mario Nark, Kody
Wensley and Cameron Hall and midfielders Daniel O’Toole, Mitch
Mendoza and Brooks O’Hea when the Fireballs and Tigers played each
other.
Nick Roman and Marcell DeBarros kept the pressure on and goalie
Marc Gehlke had several strong kicks.
In Boys under-6 action:
* Logan Crider, Christian Urquiza and Nicholas Perales scored
goals for the Raptors in the game against the Lightning Bolts at
Newport Harbor High Saturday.
Strong defense and offensive assists were made by Mathew Clarkson,
Cory Kennedy, Daniel Ross and Reed Pfeiffer.
Peter Bush hustled the ball downfield and Conner Newcombe assisted
on the Raptor goals.
* The Thunderbolts and Stingrays played one another Saturday with
Jerome Higman and Ben Glabman playing strong on offense for the
Thunderbolts.
Ted Zoerner made several strong defensive plays.
* The Green Hornets started strong Saturday with Ben Bockrath
scoring three quick goals with Luke Shea and Matthew Wiesner each
shooting many shots on goal.
Carter Scott started several scoring drives and Blake Jessen
showed strong defense.
Duke Danell-Walker had some saves in the box and many shots on
goal with Sean Wilson, Bryant Putnam and Wyatt Devine displaying
solid footwork and defense.
* Brett Beaudette and Tyler Fowler scored goals and Beaudette
added an assist for the Firestorm against the Raptors Saturday at
Newport Harbor High.
Joe Ahearn, Riley Campbell, Steve Garcia, Jack Heald, Gavin Kunkle
and Griffin Sharp played strong for coaches Tres Heals, James Fowler
and assistant coach Alberto Garcia.
