The Costa Mesa Pop Warner Jr. Pee Wee Green team is headed to the
playoffs, but it wasn’t easy.
The Mustangs had to come up with a defensive stop against Yorba
Linda in the final 10 seconds and they got it to pull out a 7-6 win
over Yorba Linda.
On fourth down with less than 10 seconds left and Yorba Linda deep
in Mustangs’ territory, Yorba Linda’s quarterback threw a pass but
Brett Farthing jumped in front of the receiver and batted the ball
away to preserve the win.
Costa Mesa’s defense played staunchly all day with Eric Brown
sacking the quarterback twice and Chris Gute adding an interception.
Jacob Folsom dove across the goal line to score Mesa’s lone
touchdown and Gute added the extra point.
Folsom also threw a 15-yard pass to Brown for an crucial first
down.
