Sailors drop two at Santa Barbara
Newport Harbor High Coach Dan Glenn said his girls volleyball
team, “didn’t play our best ball,” and lost two matches to finish
eighth in the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions Saturday.
The Sailors (15-6) opened the day in the third-place semifinal
against Bishop Montgomery, which won, 15-7, 15-9, 11-15, 15-9. Alyson Jennings (15 kills, six digs, three aces) and Kristin McClune (13
kills, five blocks, five aces) led Newport to its Game 3 win, while
Lauren Miller contributed seven kills, and Bryana Carey, Elizabeth
Clayton and Emily Turner added five kills each. Kellie King amassed
31 assists for the Sailors.
Newport also lost to Menlo-Atherton, 10-15, 13-15, 8-15, in the seventh-place game. Jennings recorded 14 kills and McClune had 13
kills and three aces. Newport senior Jordan Carmack posted 26
assists.
