‘Eaters grab 11th place at Alister MacKenzie Invite

UC Irvine seniors Mike Lavery and Ryan Armstrong led the Anteaters
with 3-over 216’s and UC Irvine finished 11th out of 17 teams in the
54-hole Alister MacKenzie Invitational at The Meadow Club that
concluded Tuesday.
UC Irvine tallied an 871, 30 strokes more than first-place Fresno
State (841).
Lavery and Armstrong tied for 23rd place. Armstrong shot a 74 in
the final round while Lavery fired a 77.
UC Irvine junior Vince Poncino finished 37th at 219, senior Jeff
Coburn shot a 77 Tuesday and finished 40th at 220, while freshman Jay
Choe also shot 77 Tuesday to place 81st at 233.
Fresno State’s Nick Watney shot an 11-under 202 to capture the
individual championship.
The ‘Eaters return to action in the Tillinghast at Quaker Ridge
Golf Club in Scarsdale, N.Y., Monday and Tuesday.
