A must see exhibit

Recently the City’s Arts Commission conducted its fifth annual

Senior Art Competition and these Laguna Beach residents won: in

acrylics -- Randy Ray won first, John Cunningham second, Mary

Trautmann won third and honorable mention went to Juliane Hodjera.

For oils -- Nan Jacobsen won first, MaryAnn Hamilton second and

Stephanie Cunningham third. For photography -- Jim Otto won both

first and second place and in the miscellaneous category, Cunningham

took first and Sue Caldwell won third.

“I thought the quality of the work was fabulous,” said Sian

Poeschl, city arts coordinator. “And the diversity of the types of

work was wonderful to see. It’s a must-see exhibit at Wells Fargo

Bank.”

The three judges included Joan Corman of the Arts Commission, Bob

Bonn of the Sawdust Festival and Brenda Bredvik of the Festival of

Arts.

The winning pieces of work will be on exhibit through Oct. 28,

celebrating Arts and Humanities Month. Wells Fargo is at 260 Ocean

Ave.

DJ spotlight

Spinning at Woody’s on Sunday’s, DJ Rudolfo Artavia really gets

the crowd going. His CD “From Here to Eternity” offers a great mix.

Artavia’s background goes back to the beginning of the house movement

and he also likes to use sounds from his Latin roots. For more

Laguna Artists at juried exhibit

This Saturday and Sunday the South Coast Fine Arts Festival will

feature three Laguna artists -- Marjorie Kinney, oils, Fred McClory,

sculpting, and Sonja Bradley, jewelry. It’s a juried exhibition of

100 artists from six Western states. The proceeds go to benefit South

Coast Children’s Society, a nonprofit entity that provides shelter,

care and treatment for abused and neglected children in Orange

County. The fund-raiser and exhibit is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at

Newport Dunes, 1131 Back Bay Road. Tickets are $5 and are available

Showing off

Lagunatics, which is the best and worst of Laguna Beach in show

form, tackles all the top issues affecting Lagunans. Starring your

friends and neighbors, it is an incredible show year after year that

keeps people talking about it months after their fun production. It’s

one of the first things you must do -- I heard about when I first

moved to Laguna Beach. Unfortunately, tickets really go fast. It runs
