* IF ELECTED, WILL FIGHT FOR:
A resolution that district principals should call parents who have
complaints in a reasonable amount of time, if only to acknowledge
that they are looking into their concerns.
“When it comes down to a kid having a problem, you have to get on
it right away and nip it in the bud.”
Term limits so board members only serve two consecutive terms:
“From day one, I would encourage others to take my job away from
me so you get a younger board with [trustees] with kids in the
district.”
* ON CURRENT BOARD MEMBERS:
“I really feel parents have no one to talk to if there is a
problem. If you go to tell them something nice, they’re all ears. But
if you go with a problem, it’s more difficult.” Loyd said this was
more of a problem at the high schools than the elementary schools.
* ON REPRESENTING PARENTS WHO ARE AFRAID TO VOICE THEIR CONCERNS:
“If [parents] come to me, I will fight their battles. If they see
a few changes and successes -- which they haven’t seen in the past --
they will speak up more.”
* ON AN ISSUE HE PERCEIVES TO BE SIGNIFICANT ON THE WESTSIDE OF
COSTA MESA -- “WHITE FLIGHT” FROM AREA SCHOOLS:
“If the board is proactive and talks with the community, some
arrangement will be made to stop ‘white flight.’ No one is looking at
that issue. Everyone is pushing it away. It’s primarily up to the
board.”
