Newport Harbor High’s club surfing team remains undefeated (3--0)
after defeating Los Alamitos Tuesday morning at the 56th Street site,
79-47.
Newport, operating within a format of major rip currents with a
backwash of mix-master-type four-foot waves, was led by senior Geoff
Rill’s third straight No. 1 placing in the short board.
He led a sweep of all four heats with junior Tommy Holbrook,
senior Morgan Hill and senior Will Anderson also taking honors in
their respective heats.
Second place in three of the heats went to Joey Head, Erika
Hoesseini and Bronson Hovnanian.
Alex Knost won the long board, Dan Kretschmar and Mike Beck went
1-2 in the body board and Hoesseini and Amy Lowry went 1-2 in the
girls short/long board, the third straight match the two have
dominated. It was Kretschmar’s second conquest in three starts.
Newport is at Salt Creek in Dana Point on Tuesday for a 6:15 a.m.
matchup, and Oct. 10, will host Santa Margarita.
