Sharon Davis to appear at Schipske event

Pulling in another political heavy-hitter, congressional candidate
Gerrie Schipske has lined up California First Lady Sharon Davis for a
fund-raiser a week from today.
“It’s an incredible show of support,” said Terry Stinson,
Schipske’s campaign manager. “She speaks on behalf of the governor.
It shows that Gerrie is supported by the governor.”
Schipske, a Democrat, is running against Republican Rep. Dana
Rohrabacher for the newly realigned 46th District seat, which
includes Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Seal Beach and parts of the
Los Angeles County coastline.
Liberal Democrat Rep. Barney Frank attended a fund-raiser for
Schipske, a nurse and instructor at Cal State Long Beach, in Laguna
Beach in July.
The Oct. 6 event is set to be held in Huntington Beach, at the
Chimayo at the Beach restaurant. The event will run from 3 to 6 p.m.
at Chimayo, located at 315 Pacific Coast Highway.
“She often attends these events to get out the vote and talk about
the importance of electing Democratic candidates,” said Amber
Pasricha, a spokesman for Davis’ campaign. “Where the governor can’t
go, she goes.”
In her own race, Schipske faces long odds at unseating
Rohrabacher, who has held his seat since 1988.
So far, Schipske has spent almost as much money as she has raised.
As of July 31, she had raised $113,011 and spent $104,623, records show. Schipske holds only $585 cash in her war chest. By contrast,
Rohrabacher has raised $250,924 and spent $168,534. He holds $87,445
in his campaign treasury.
In addition to the money gap, Schipske must also overcome the
district’s Republican-majority of registered voters. The district is
almost 50% registered Republican.
