SEPT. 17
* Cleo Street: An officer was patrolling in the 200 block at
10:45 p.m. when he saw a man running away from the loading dock of a
store with cases of beer. The 19-year-old man was arrested on
suspicion of burglary and transported to Orange County Jail in lieu
of $10,000 bail.
SEPT. 18
* Myrtle/South Coast Highway: A skunk was reported near the
intersection at 3:59 a.m. It was later picked up by animal control.
* Monte Hermosos: A dog tied up in the yard was reported for
nonstop barking. The animal control officer had to untangle it and
leave a notice for the owner in the 3000 block at 10:20 a.m.
* San Amadeo: A resident reported a cat tied to a tree in the 200
block at 11:56 a.m.
* West Street: A baby pit bull without tags or identification was
picked up by animal control in the 31000 block at 3:10 p.m.
* Capistrano Avenue: A white van went down a steep hill and ended
up on a resident’s property in the 900 block at 7:03 p.m.
SEPT. 19
* South Coast Highway/Mountain Road: An officer responded to a
call about a homeless man punching and kicking cars waiting in the
drive-through near the intersection at 12:29 a.m. A 31-year-old
Laguna Beach transient was arrested on suspicion of public
intoxication. No damage to the cars was reported.
* South Coast Highway: Police got a call from a resident in a
drive-through who claimed that his order was incorrect and the
employee refused him change in the 1200 block at 1:08 a.m.
* Park Avenue: A student reported that her vehicle had been
vandalized in the 600 block at 1:45 p.m. The vandals had egged the
car and written obscenities with white shoe polish.
* Forest Avenue: Officers responded to a call in the 300 block at
3:29 p.m. A 52-year-old Laguna Beach transient had ordered and eaten
$15 worth of food and had had no money. He was arrested on suspicion
of defrauding an innkeeper and for falsely identifying himself to an
officer. He was transported to Orange County Jail in lieu of $1,000
bail.
* Thousand Steps Beach: A resident reported that three juveniles
started a fire and ran through it near the beach at 6:17 p.m. The
young men were contacted by officers and released to their parents.
* Rembrandt Drive/Van Dyke Drive: A resident reported that
someone was setting off bottle rockets in the area near the
intersection at 7:34 p.m.
* Crescent Bay Drive: A resident woke up to some noises and
discovered three chairs were stolen and several items on the patio
had been vandalized in the 200 block at 11:33 p.m. Total value $625.
SEPT. 20
* South Coast Highway: A resident contacted police after he saw a
man take his bike out of his back yard in the 31000 block at 1:23
a.m. An officer saw the man and pursued him. When the man saw the
officer he threw the bike aside and tried to run. The 29-year-old
Santa Ana resident was arrested on suspicion of petty theft and
transported to Orange County Jail.
* Fairview Drive: Police responded to a residential burglary in
the 31000 block at 9:53 a.m. The resident believed the incident had
occurred between Sept. 14 and 15. Someone had entered the home
through a window and stolen two video cameras, a laptop and some
personal items. Total value $8.000.
* La Mirada: A resident reported that the neighbor’s wind chimes
were making too much noise in the 900 block at 12:46 p.m. An officer
responded and determined that they were not a nuisance. The resident
removed them anyway.
* North Coast Highway/Broadway: Police responded to a possible
injury traffic collision in the intersection at 11:03 p.m. A
22-year-old Costa Mesa resident had been traveling at a high rate of
speed on Broadway and had made a right turn onto North Coast Highway.
His car slid across the lanes and hit a driver waiting to turn left.
No injuries were reported. The Costa Mesa man was arrested on
suspicion of driving under the influence and held on $10,000 bail.
SATURDAY
* Cozumel: A resident reported that someone had etched an
obscenity in the side of his car in the 200 block at 11:04 a.m.
* Glenneyre Street: Sgt. Guy Miller pulled over a driver for a
traffic violation in the 800 block at 10:15 a.m. While he was
questioning the driver, the passenger got out of the car with his
back turned and reached into his fanny pack. Miller demanded that he
turn around and put his hands up. The man refused. He had allegedly
been destroying methamphetamine. The 35-year-old Riverside man was
arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance,
possession of paraphernalia, destroying evidence, resisting arrest
and carrying a concealed dagger. The suspect was transported to
Orange County Jail in lieu of $10,500.
* Catalina Street: A resident reported that at about 4 a.m. he
woke to the sound of his front door opening and his dog barking. He
got out of bed, found his door open and then locked it. Later that
afternoon he discovered his wallet missing and reported it to police
at 1:11 p.m.
SUNDAY
* McKnight Drive: Officers responded to a party in an apartment
complex in the 100 block at 2:02 a.m. They arrested a 23-year-old
Laguna Beach man on suspicion of public intoxication.
* North Coast Highway: An officer stopped a car for a traffic
violation in the 800 block at 5:06 a.m. Four juveniles were detained
for curfew violations. One 17-year-old Anaheim resident was arrested
on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and furnishing
narcotics. He was transported to Orange County Juvenile Hall without
bail. The other youths were released to their parents.
* Oriole Drive: Officers responded to a domestic disturbance call
in the 900 block at 12:02 p.m. A man reported that he and his wife
had gotten into a verbal argument that escalated into a physical
altercation. He sustained significant injuries to his face, nose and
neck. Officers determined that his wife was the primary aggressor and
was arrested on suspicion of felony spousal abuse.
* Oak Street: A resident contacted an officer thinking she might
have received more money from an ATM than she requested in the 500
block at 4:32 p.m. They confirmed that she had received the right
amount.
MONDAY
* Laguna Canyon Road: A resident reported that she had seen
people throwing trash over a fence in the 1600 block at 8:38 a.m.
* Ocean Avenue: A 20-year old Laguna Beach transient was arrested
in a Harbor Court warrant on suspicion of failing to register as a
sex offender in the 200 block at 11:45 a.m. He had been initially
reported by a restaurant employee for allegedly removing $12 off a
table.
* Ocean Avenue: A broken change machine was reported in the 300
block at 12:12 p.m.
* Wilson Street/St. Anne’s Drive: A resident reported that she
had seen a man throw a suspicious package into a public trash bin and
then tossed in gloves and a mask before driving away. Upon
investigation a small dead animal was found in the bag near the
intersection at 2:36 p.m.
* Mar Vista Road: A fallen tree was reported laying across the
road and over wires in the 31000 block at 4:23 p.m.
* Cozumel: A woman reported a battery in the 300 block at 5:47
p.m. She had gotten into a fight with her husband and fell down,
hitting her head. No arrests were made.
* Cypress Drive: A resident reported that her car had been stolen
in the 500 block at 10:22 p.m. She began yelling obscenities at the
dispatcher because an officer was not available at that moment. The
resident later found her car parked in her car port.
TUESDAY
* South Coast Highway: A delivery man reported a hit and run in
the 2000 block at 8:48 a.m. He had parked his truck and was slowing
traffic. A female driver drove past him and brushed him across the
chest with her side view mirror.
* Woods Cove: A resident reported that two people were walking
around in strange costumes at 10:11 a.m. One was dressed in a witch
hat and mask; the other was wearing a devil mask and cape. The
individuals were not committing any kind of crime.
* Gaviota Drive/Cleo Street: A resident reported that her husband
was missing at 9:13 p.m. He was later discovered at the City Council
meeting.
WEDNESDAY
* Viejo Street: A resident reported that two men were running up
and down the street in the 200 block at 2:07 a.m. She thought they
might be naked.
* Ocean Avenue: A man was reported for throwing a skinned bird at
patrons in the 200 block at 5:05 p.m.
