POLO: Eagles romp, 16-3
The first game in the Golden West League for the Estancia High
boys water polo team proved successful as the Eagles belted host
Westminster, 16-3.
The win makes the Eagles 1-2, 1-0 in the Golden West League.
Junior Paul Collier led the Eagles with five goals, followed by
Jess Hellmich and Frank Gamboa, who each had four goals and Matt
Metkovich, Anthony Hermann and Chad Kunnert who all had one goal
apiece.
Goalie Nathan Marsteller made nine saves.
“We had the counterattack working in the second and fourth periods
and that was the difference,” said Estancia Coach John Carpenter.
“Our front court game and our 6-on-5’s were on. We came out a little
tight in the first period but I think our guys were a little psyched
up for our first league game.”
Collier also played well defensively, making several steals,
Carpenter said.
Estancia’s junior varsity team beat Westminster 12-3, as Sean
Goodman scored seven goals.
