The Huntington Beach Independent went to Downtown Huntington Beach
on Main Street and asked the question, “It has been one year since
the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11. Is this a different country a year
later?”
“Absolutely. I think that we’re aware of what we did to cause this
to happen, more than ever.”

“I definitely think people care about each other a lot more, at
least where I live. I do think people do care about each other and
stick together.”

“The knee-jerk reaction after the attacks, the National Guardsman
at the airport. It’s going after the horse after it’s gone. It
reminds me of after World War II -- the damage is done, they’re not
going to do it again.”
GREG PECK, 48,
Huntington Beach
“Yes. The people are more aware that there could be any
terrorists, even more aware of their homes, traveling ... it brought
more awareness.”
BAULINA KAY, 32,
Phoenix
“I don’t think it’s much different. I think, I actually say we’re
not any more aware of the world and our place in it, which causes us
further problems.”
CHRIS KAY, 34,
Phoenix
“It’s changed a lot because everybody is not so ... everybody had
their guard down. It has changed in that way, we now have our guard
up.”
