Mesa Verde Partners, Sports World neck and neck
With just two games remaining in the regular season, the race for
the Wednesday League championship in the city of Laguna Beach Men’s
Summer 16” Slow Pitch Softball Program appears to be a two-team
affair.
Mesa Verde Partners maintained its hold on the top spot Wednesday
by tossing aside Courtesy Auto Body, 18-4, for its sixth consecutive
victory.
But right behind Mesa Verde Partners in the standings -- and by a
precarious half-game -- is Sports World, which remained in second
place by whipping winless Forty Majority, 16-3.
In racking up its sixth straight victim, Mesa Verde Partners (7-1)
was led by Jeff Greenough, who had two home runs and five RBI.
Ranie Martini picked up the pitching win for Mesa Verde Partners.
The loss left Courtesy Auto Body at 3-4.
In handing Forty Majority a 13-run defeat, Brad Davidson and Bill
Toon each had four hits to lead Sports World.
Davidson homered, doubled and singled twice.
Toon homered and knocked out three singles.
Scott Bakkum had a double and two singles and Paul Corey singled
three times to add to Sports World’s attack.
Mike Hilburn recorded two singles off winning pitcher Mitch
Kruger, who tossed a six-hitter.
The win moved Sports World to 6-1-1; Forty Majority is now 0-8.

Hobie 9, Sofa Kings 7
Hobie kept its playoff hopes alive with the two-run victory.
John Collins produced a home run and single to pace Hobie, which
improved to 3-5.
Sofa Kings (3-4-1) were powered by Kasey Curtis, who hit two home
runs and singled twice; Bill Albert, who singled, doubled and
tripled; and Shane Mikaylo, who doubled twice and singled.
