Sandpiper’s win streak at six
In a game that featured a total of 24 hits, Sandpiper had enough
to outlast Team Viagra, 6-5, in an even battle between the top and
bottom teams in the Tuesday League standings of the City of Laguna
Beach Men’s Summer 16 Softball Program.
The victory at Riddle Field allowed Sandpiper to extend their win
streak to six games and put them at 6-0 and in first place.
They are the lone, remaining unbeaten team in summer league play.
The loss was the sixth consecutive for Team Viagra, now 0-6.
Each team pounded out 12 hits.
Jeff Heminghaus, Bill Reimer, Dave Sommerville and Mickey Allen --
who comprise the top-half of Sandpiper’s batting order, each recorded
a pair of singles.
Winning pitcher Chris Howell had Sandpiper’s lone extra base hit
of the game, a double during a five-run sixth inning.
A trio of hitters led Team Viagra with Keith Mulvaney and Nate
Pivaroff each hitting a home run and Dave Brobeck getting two
doubles.
In other games:
Rotary 3, Good, Bad and Ugly 1
Mark Maurer recorded the pitching victory behind a four-hit effort
to pace Rotary.
Donn Johnson smacked a three-run home run and single and Maurer
backed his pitching performance with three singles.
Rotary is in third place at 3-2.
Good, Bad, and Ugly, which managed just four hits off of Maurer,
fell to 2-4.
Island Shade 3, Used Cars 1
Bruce Aguinaldo tossed a four hitter to lead Island Shade.
Aguinaldo and Andy Bunn each hit two singles, and Kevin Ketchum
hit a solo home run to highlight the offense of Island Shade, which
evened their record at 3-3.
Jeff Bettencourt singled twice to account for half the four hits
managed by defending champion Used Cards, now 2-4.
