Sandpiper remains perfect
The race for first place in the Tuesday League standings of the
city of Laguna Beach Men’s Summer 16 Softball Program remains tight,
thanks to a pair of close wins by the league’s top two teams.
Sandpiper remained all alone in first place and kept its record
perfect sneaking past Rotary, 8-7.
Ganahl Lumber, meanwhile, remained a half-game back of Sandpiper
after squeaking past Island Shade, 3-2. Sandpiper 8, Rotary 7
Sandpiper ripped five home runs in the win, two of which came from
the bat of Dave Sommerville. Rob Charles, Chris Howell and Ryan
Neptune also hit homers.
Sommerville also singled in a three for three hitting performance.
Rotary’s Greg Butler matched Sommerville in home runs with two which
accounted for four RBI. Donn Johnson added three singles.
Ganahl Lumber 3, Island Shade 2
The third inning proved to be the difference for Ganahl Lumber
which scored all three of its runs in the frame. Steve Dixon homered
and Robert Ponce singled before Greg Wallace hit a two-run home run.
John Verdugo notched the pitching win on a seven hitter. He gave
up a double and single to Andy Bunn and a pair of singles to Coby
Naess. Used Cars 14, Team Viagra 3 Defending Tuesday League champion
Used Cars won its second straight behind the three home run
performance of Micah Stovall, two home runs and a pair of walks by
Mike McKenzie and a home run and single by Mike Cooper.
Keith Mulvaney homered twice for Team Viagra.
