WHAT’S UP:
City Council Election
WHAT’S BEHIND IT:
Three seats open on the City Council. The deadline to file
nomination papers was 5 p.m., Aug. 13. Incumbents Steven Dicterow and
Toni Iseman, Wastewater Advisory Committee member Melissa O’Neal and
former Planning Commissioner Elizabeth Pearson made the cut, with
Pearson filing mere hours before the deadline.
Marine Room owner and former Councilman Kelly Boyd considered
running, but decided against it.
WHAT NOW:
Village Laguna will hold its biennial endorsement meeting Monday
in the large hall at Fred Lang Park. All council candidates and
School Board candidates were invited regardless of their expressed
opinions of Village Laguna.
Each candidate will get three minutes to make a prepared
presentation and 1 1/2 minutes to respond to questions developed by a
Village Laguna committee.
Balloting will follow. Only Village Laguna members in good
standing can vote.
WHAT’S SAID:
“An endorsement requires a two-thirds majority vote,” said Village
Laguna President Bette Anderson. “We continue balloting until someone
gets two-thirds or we vote to end the balloting.”
WHAT’S NEXT:
Village Laguna’s endorsement to be announced. It won’t be the last
one, as other influential groups are expected to make their choices
known.
