The Orange County affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation announced that Costa Mesa resident Sandy Finestone will
serve as president of the foundation’s board of directors for the
2002-03 year. Finestone, a 19-year breast cancer survivor, has been
involved with the foundation since 1991 and will serve her third term
as president.... Corona del Mar resident Sarah Marquis was named to
the 2002-03 board of directors for the Orange County American
Marketing Assn. Marquis is the vice president of publicity for the
organization, which supports the personal and professional career
development goals of marketers. She joins 11 other professionals
throughout Orange County who were elected to the board from the
general membership.... Newport Beach residents earned awards at the
110th annual Orange County Fair, which ended July 28. Ed Hart earned
top honors in the Sculpture Competition’s Professional division for
his entry titled “Purple Hart.” Colleen Kennedy Premer won first
place in the Fine Arts category for her mono-print with collage
elements piece titled “From the Archives,” and Regina Woodyard was
the division winner in the Ethnic Cooking competition for her olives
in garlic.... Marissa Anshutz, daughter of Philip and Judy Crane
Anshutz of Newport Beach, spent the spring semester studying at the
University of New South Wales in Australia. Anshutz, along with about
half of the Middlebury College’s junior class, traveled to Australia
to gain an enhanced international perspective.... Nine local students
received placement on the dean’s honors list at UC Santa Barbara for
achieving academic excellence for their work during the spring
semester. Those students include Costa Mesa residents Dana Helen
Cassity, Benjamin William Ritter and Sara Marie White; and Newport
Beach residents Elizabeth Ellen Erickson, John Joseph Graass, Blair
Lauren Kupferman, Gina Michelle Penuela, Lynn Ayers Rinek and Erin
Rae Wolf. All of the students selected must have attained a
grade-point average of 3.75 on a program of 12 or more graded units
in the college of letters.
