They’re sunny! They’re shiny! They’re the library’s good fortune
this summer, the Sunshine Readers!
The library is especially pleased this July and August to be
graced with the enthusiasm and talents of these young storytelling
sensations from the Laguna branch of the National Charity League. Led
by local shining star herself, Julia Johnson, the Sunshine Readers
present a fun and lively preschool story time at 11 a.m. each Tuesday
morning through Aug. 13. Be sure to make the library a weekly Tuesday
morning stop for the best in kid lit.
After being enthralled by our Sunshine Readers, we heartily
suggest a relaxing beachside lunch followed by a long siesta because
there’s more happening at the library on Tuesday evenings that you’ll
want to enjoy. At 7 p.m. uncover the mystery and magic of ancient
Egypt while attending “Tomb Raider’s Tuesday Evening Summer Reading
Programs.”
These programs are:
July 30 -- “Magic of Egypt: Secret of the Sphinx” with Cheryl
Redes. Travel up the Nile on an expedition with live animals to
unravel secrets of nature and ancient Egypt. Come prepared to
participate and have great fun.
Aug. 6 -- “Ancient Egyptian Mystery: the Source of all Knowledge”
featuring Ken and John Frawley. The Frawleys will search for replicas
of Ancient Egyptian artifacts from the tombs to discover the source
of all knowledge. The audience will participate in wonderful and
ageless stories of Africa and Arabia.
Aug. 13 -- “Comic Ventriloquist” featuring Joe Gandelman. This
Egyptian-themed show features lots of fun characters, comedy, music
and audience interaction. Come learn ventriloquism and puppetry
secrets from Jolly Joe. Last, but certainly not least, the library’s
Summer Reading Program, “Wrapped up in Reading,” invites all toddlers
through teens to sign up and earn a new, free paperback book for
every five hours of reading, up to 20 hours.
This summer it’s time to discover the ancient - and contemporary -
wonder of reading. It’s a spectacular, exciting treasure to be sure.
