Conexant announces layoffs

Newport Beach-based Conexant Systems Inc. on Wednesday announced
plans to lay off 400 workers in its Mindspeed unit following a
third-quarter net loss.
“Mindspeed’s performance over the past two quarters clearly
indicates that our business is recovering more quickly than the
Internet infrastructure market as a whole,” said Raouf Halim, chief
executive of Mindspeed, in a statement. “However, it is equally clear
that the overall market is recovering at a slower rate than
previously anticipated.”
Conexant, which last year halted expansion plans for its offices
at MacArthur Boulevard and Jamboree Road, announced layoffs in March
2001 of 1,500 employees worldwide, including 450 of 2,700 workers at
its Newport Beach site.
