Teaching the trendsetters

Where do interior design trends come from?
Lynette Jennings will tackle this burning question at 5:30 p.m.
today on the Heritage Stage.
Jennings, a home decor expert, has an encouraging message for
would-be decorators: You are the trendsetters.
“What I’m all about is giving people confidence in their own style
and not preaching what they should be doing now because the trend is
whatever they are doing,” Jennings said.
Jennings is the creator, executive producer and host of “Lynette
Jennings Design” on the Discovery Channel. She is also the North
American design and decor spokeswoman for Home Depot.
During her talk today, Jennings will encourage people to find and
eventually flaunt their own style.
Color will be a main theme of the discussion.
“A lot of people don’t know what color to choose,” Jennings said.
“I tell them to go look in their closets because your natural
affinity for color is in your wardrobe.”
She will also provide advice on how to decorate a room, like “Town
and Country” on a shoestring budget.
“If you’re on a limited budget, paint is your best friend,”
Jennings said.
Jennings will offer tips on how to be a trend-tracker and spot
trends of the future.
She will also demonstrate a floral arrangement with an unusual
container that can be displayed poolside as the theme of the fair is
water.
