OCC Foundation raises $4.7 million
The 2001-02 academic year was the most successful in the history
of Orange Coast College’s Foundation -- by a whopping margin.
The foundation raised a total of $4.7 million in cash and in kind
donations between July 2001 and June 2002 -- an increase of 70.8%.
Cash donations for the year were up 3.8% over the previous year
and the amount of in-kind gifts increased by an impressive 216% over
last year’s total.
OCC’s Foundation has total assets valued at more than $10 million.
Major cash gifts included a $1-million gift form Trudy Doyle of
Reno in memory of her late husband, Orange County developer Frank
Doyle; a $335,000 anonymous gift for OCC’s Marine Science Department
and the Harry and Grace Steel Children’s Center; and a $100,000
Presidential Endowment from charter OCC faculty member Giles Brown.
Costa Mesa choir headed for Asia
Thirty-six choristers from the Costa Mesa-based All-American Boys
Chorus will depart for Asia on July 27 and return Aug. 26 after
performing a series of concerts throughout the continent.
The choristers, ranging in age from 11 to 15, will perform in
Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh and Penang, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau,
Taipei, Seoul and Beijing. They will perform a variety of selections,
including some from Broadway musicals, the big band era, the roaring
‘20s, Dixieland melodies and present-day medleys.
‘’The Chorus definitely has a trademark repertoire and spirit,
which will not be absent,’’ David T. R. Albulario, the group’s
director, said in a press release. ‘’But we also want to perform for
our audience’s music with which they likely will be more familiar.
Overall, our intention is to share with them some of America’s
favorite vocal music as a gift.’’
Viewing the concert as an opportunity for cultural exchange,
Albulario and Chorus Executive Director Anthony S. Manrique have high
hopes for the trip.
‘’It’s a prime opportunity to show a very positive image of
American youth,’’ Manrique said in a press release.
The All-American Boys Chorus, founded in 1970, is a nonprofit open
to all boys ages 8 to 15. Its mission is to provide each member
training, motivation and leadership opportunities within an
environment with the highest moral standards.
