The Huntington Beach Untouchables, a girls’ Under-8 Division
softball team, concluded their All-Star season by finishing in second
place at the Ventura Blast Tournament.
In the tournament final, Hart defeated the Untouchables, 1-0, in a
tense defensive battle that was decided only after 10 innings of
play.
The Untouchables received an outstanding pitching performance from
Lauren Morey in the championship game.
Morey threw a no-hitter and used her change-up to near perfection
in keeping the Hart offense off balance all game.
She finished with 21 strikeouts and walked one batter.
Hart scored the game’s only run in the 10th inning on a fielder’s
choice.
During the medal ceremony following the game, Morey received a
standing ovation from the Hart players.
Coach Mike Erickson’s Untouchables entered five All-Star
tournaments during the 2002 postseason and collected one championship
and a pair of second place trophies.
