Pet of the Week
An orange, longhaired 12-week-old kitten escaped death recently after
being hit by a car in Newport Beach. The kitten was rescued and broke
only her femur bone. She underwent surgery to have a pin implanted in her
leg to aid her full recovery but must refrain from jumping and playing
for another three weeks, said DiAnna Pfaff-Martin, founder of the
Community Animal Network.
The kitten now needs to be rescued again. She will be available for
adoption this weekend along with many others at Russo’s pet store at
Fashion Island between noon and 4 p.m.
Despite having a complete staff of volunteers and substantially
decreased veterinary services and medicines available to them, the
organization continues to face difficulties maintaining the necessary
funds, Pfaff-Martin said. With current donations averaging $1,300 a month
and an operating need of about $5,000 to $8,000 a month, the organization
simply adds to its debt.
“We are a pro-quality-life organization that is successful because the
community takes action,” she said. “If 80 people would support us with
$100 a month, we will be able to continue to say, ‘Yes, we C.A.N. make a
difference.”’ Information: (949) 759-3646, or write to the Community
Animal Network at P.O. Box 8662, Newport Beach, CA 92658.
