Two Newport-Mesa Unified School District students were recently
honored by the Disneyland Resort as part of its Creative Arts Scholarship
Program.
Jessica Arias of Estancia High School and Niall Huffman of Costa Mesa
High School were selected for their outstanding achievements in the
visual and performing arts disciplines.
Each student received a $1,000 scholarship, which was awarded to them
during a school-sponsored recognition function last month.
Consideration for the scholarship was based on the completion of a
preliminary selection process conducted by the student’s respective
district and concluding with a final round of interviews and an artistic
demonstration.
Winners were selected from a panel of judges from the Orange County
fine arts community.
For the 2001-02 school year, the resort’s second year of sponsoring
the program, 31 students were awarded the scholarship, totaling $28,500.
