Club water polo: CdM notches first-round JO qualifier win
ANAHEIM - The Corona del Mar boys water polo club team responded to
a 5-4 deficit after three quarters and defeated Irvine Aquatics Club,
8-6, to open Junior Olympic Qualifying Tournament (age 18 and under) play
Friday at Servite High.
Artie Dorr sealed the victory with a four-meter goal with 21 seconds
remaining. Dorr, who, as his teammates, attend CdM High, led the club
team with four goals. Jason DiRocco scored three goals and John Money
posted one.
Money also recorded two fourth-quarter steals and dished out an assist
in the fourth quarter, while Kevin Amendt led CdM with three steals and
DiRocco led with two assists. Dorr, Money and Ryan Moore contributed one
assist each, and Dorr, DiRocco and Ali Kattan added one steal each.
Beau Stockstill, the CdM goalie, came up big, stopping 12 shots,
including six in the first quarter and three in the fourth.
CdM, coached by Tim Salvino, plays two games today. If the CdM boys
win one, they will qualify for the Junior Olympics, July 26 in Moraga.
