Warrant issued for fatal shooting of 2 teens
Jose Paul Corona
Police have issued a no-bail warrant for Juan Jose Meza, 19, who they
suspect fatally shot two Oak View teenagers in May.
Meza is the prime suspect in the gangland shooting deaths of
18-year-old Oscar Gaytan and 16-year-old Heriberto Tapia Vasquez, police
said.
Gaytan and Vasquez were shot in the upper body during the early
morning hours of May 11.
Gaytan was found dead where he was shot on Dairyview Circle and
Vasquez was found in front of an apartment on Jacquelyn Circle.
Police believe Meza lived in the area where the shootings occurred,
said Huntington Beach Police Sgt. Gary Meza, no relation to the suspect.
Police allege both victims were gang members.
“We believe that, but are unable to confirm that,” Meza said.
Because this may be a gang-related crime, police were able to obtain
the no-bail warrant for two counts of homicide with gang enhancements and
one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
Police are seeking the public’s help in locating Meza. Meza is known
to have used the aliases Victor Sandoval and Juan Garcia.
Anyone having information regarding Meza’s whereabouts or anyone with
information on this case should call the Huntington Beach Police
Detective Hotline (714) 375-0666.
