B.W. Cook -- The Crowd
The Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa rocked the night for Share Our Selves, a
nonprofit agency assisting those in need in Orange County. The nightclub
hosted four rock bands and charged a nominal $5 entrance fee, or the
alternative of $2 plus a donation of two cans of food.
The place overflowed with good vibes. Karen Harrington, director of
development for Share Our Selves, reports that $320 and two large bins of
food, along with donated clothing, will help the agency help those in
need in the community.
Josh Leavitt, lead singer for the band STAYTE, commented, “It’s
important for local businesses and residents to have the opportunity to
support a local charity.”
The bands donated their time and talent for the evening fund-raiser.
In the crowd were local Newport Beach good guys Doug Harrington, Dwight
Belden and Glen Johnson.

Man-about-town Reed Sprinkel will be toasted and roasted Sunday at Big
Canyon Country Club for an 80th birthday celebration. The evening is
being planned by Reed’s wife, Rita, in her incredible Norwegian fashion.
The former actress and model has been a fixture on the Newport Coast for
more than 30 years, supporting many worthwhile endeavors with her
husband.
Rita is lending her style to Big Canyon Executive Chef Jean-Pierre
Lemanissier, who is creating a dinner of wild poached salmon served with
champagne cream sauce and Norwegian cucumber salad. A special dessert of
Norwegian cream cake with liqueur, strawberries and raspberries will be
presented to Reed.
Family and friends numbering close to 200 guests will be greeted by
the USC Trojan Marching Band. Sprinkel is a 1946 USC graduate student who
has remained loyal to the Trojans. Pilar Wayne and Jessie Upchurch,
Kathy and Jerry Thompson, Henry and Carol Schielein, Paul and Beverly
Salata, Alex and Barbara Bowie, along with Sprinkel children Annette
Ostrem, Steve Sprinkel and Susie Hudson, are expected to be on hand to
sample the cream cake, blow out 80 candles and send blessings for at
least another 80.
