Summer nights deserve a little heat. And while the weather is not
cooperating, the dance troupe Noche Flamenca will do its best to bring
some sultry style into the summer starting Thursday at the Orange County
Performing Arts Center.
Noche Flamenca, started in 1993 by Artistic Director Martin
Santangelo and his wife, hails from Madrid, Spain. The flamenco troupe is
highly regarded internationally, earning acclaim from reviewers at both
the New York Times and the San Francisco Examiner.
Among the flamenco artists that have worked and continue to work with
the company are Soledad Barrio, Belen Maya, Alejandro Granados, Antonio
Vizarraga, Rafael Jimenez Falo and David Serra.
The Center performance is being sponsored in part by George and Julia
Argyros. George Argyros is the American ambassador to Spain.
“The culture and history of this magnificent country is extraordinary,
and flamenco is certainly one of its signature art forms,” Julia Argyros
said. “One of the most effective ways for us to gain a greater
appreciation of each other and this marvelously diverse world we share is
through our art and culture.”
