Newport library offers 3 summer reading programs
Designed for book lovers of all ages, three Newport Beach Public
Library Summer Reading Programs will focus on pleasure reading while also
providing opportunities for participants to win prizes and attend special
events this summer.
For the younger crowd, the Wrapped Up in Reading program geared toward
students entering sixth grade and younger, will include both a Readers
Club and a Read-to-Me Club. Under both programs, participants will have
the chance to win toys, paperbacks and fast-food coupons according to
their reading logs. They will also be entered into drawings with prizes
such as T-shirts and passes to the Orange County Fair and the Orange
County Discovery Museum.
Students entering seventh through 12th grades can participate in the
Teen Book Raiders Dig Reading program. It will include free screenings of
popular movies at 7 p.m. every Wednesday at the Central Library. The
screenings will also include complimentary popcorn and is strictly for
teens. Adults may attend only if accompanied by a teen.
The third program, “Peer Amid Books,” is designed for adults and will
take place at Balboa, Corona del Mar and Mariners branch libraries. It
also has opportunities for prizes, such as library video coupons, library
foundation book bags, Newport Theatre Arts Center play tickets and free
admissions to a Manuscripts program.
